Panathinaikos President Criticizes EuroLeague Over Athens Final Four Chaos
(MENAFN) Panathinaikos Basketball Club president Dimitris Giannakopoulos has sharply criticized the EuroLeague following widespread organizational and security issues during the Olympiacos–Fenerbahçe Beko semifinal in Athens.
Reports indicate that the EuroLeague has faced heavy backlash over crowd control problems, ticketing disruptions, and security lapses during the Final Four event at the Telekom Center, the home arena of Panathinaikos.
Giannakopoulos responded in a video posted on social media, arguing that the same situation would have led to severe punishment if it had occurred during a Panathinaikos match.
"If this had happened during the Panathinaikos game, you would have punished us, you would have fined us millions. You would have expelled us from the games. I would not even be able to go to the arena for the rest of my life. It was your responsibility because we handed over the arena to you. This happened. What will you do now? Is it Giannakopoulos' fault again? Will you punish me? Well done."
The incident has intensified scrutiny of the EuroLeague’s management of the Final Four, which has been widely criticized by clubs, venue operators, and officials over alleged failures in ticket verification and security coordination.
